The many benefits of bowling

No matter which bowling alley in the Kawarthas Lakes you decide to book a game at the benefits of bowling will be the same.

For example, while bowling may not seem strenuous, it does provide a low-impact form of physical activity. It involves walking, swinging and lifting. Movements like this engage multiple muscle groups, including the arms, shoulders, legs, and core.

Bowling is an excellent social and bonding time too whether you’re with friends, family, or colleagues.

It doesn’t matter how old you are. Bowling is a sport that people of all ages can enjoy.

Had a stressful day or week? Bowling can help alleviate stress and promote relaxation.

And of course, everyone enjoys a little friendly competition. You’ll be keeping score which will add even more excitement and fun to your bowling alley outing!

The difference between 5-pin bowling and 10-pin bowling

In the introduction above we mentioned that Lakeview Bowl in Peterborough is the only bowling alley in the Kawarthas that offers both 5-pin bowling and 10-pin bowling.

So what’s the difference?

There are a few.

Number of pins: In 5-pin bowling, there are, as the name suggests, five pins arranged in a V-shape formation. In 10-pin bowling, there are ten pins arranged in a triangular formation. This difference in pin count affects the scoring system, strategy, and difficulty of knocking down pins.

Ball size and weight: The balls used in 5-pin bowling are smaller and lighter compared to those used in 10-pin bowling. This makes them easier to handle, particularly for children or individuals with smaller hands.

Pin Shape and Height: The pins in 5-pin bowling are taller and narrower compared to those in 10-pin bowling. The taller, narrower pins in 5-pin bowling are more difficult to knock down, requiring greater precision and accuracy in aiming and ball control.

The bottom line: if you and your group have never bowled before, have bowled only a few times, or there are children or seniors in your group, you are better off going with 5-pin bowling. The ball will be smaller and lighter, making it easier for every bowler to handle.

FUN FACT: 5-pin bowling is primarily played in Canada. In the rest of the world, 10-pin bowling is the more commonly played version of the game.
