Tour Stop #1: Country Mart Bakery in Buckhorn

Located at 3328 Buckhorn Rd in Buckhorn, Ontario across from the Foodland grocery store. The Country Mart Bakery is always a strong contender in the Butter Tart Tour held in the Kawarthas every year.

Award-winning baker Sharon Wrightman runs the kitchen. She produces items such as six varieties of butter tarts, nine types of squares, pastries, pies, breads, and even meals if you want to take a night off from cooking.

Must tries at Country Mart Bakery include their raspberry coconut butter tart, coconut cream tart, peanut butter marshmallow square, apple strudel and cappuccino bar.

Tour Stop #2: Stuff’d Ice Cream Bakery & Cafe in Lakefield

Located at 18 Bridge St, in Lakefield, Ontario just after the bridge as you enter the downtown area of Lakefield. Stuff’d Ice Cream Bakery & Café will tempt you with many baked treats.

Order up a couple of baked goods and something from the coffee bar, then sit at a table or along the window and enjoy. There’s even a play area if you bring along the kids which will buy you a little more time to savour every bite and sip.

Tour Stop #3: Lakefield Bakery on Queen in Lakefield

Located at 127 Queen St, Lakefield, Ontario, the main drag in town. Lakefield Bakery on Queen is known for its Portuguese custard tarts, so much so that one loyal patron proclaimed, “they are the best custard tarts outside of Portugal”.

The owner and baker, Theresa, comes from a family of bakers.

Must tries at the Lakefield Bakery on Queen include their Portuguese custard tart of course, Hello Dolly bar, cinnamon bun loaf and blueberry scone.

Tour Stop #4: Buns & Sweets Homestyle Baking in Bridgenorth

Located at 818 Hunter St, Bridgenorth, Ontario. Buns & Sweets Homestyle Baking lives up to its name. In fact some of their proven, favourite recipes are over 100 years old.

On their Facebook page they describe themselves as, “A little bakery bringing you fresh, homestyle baked goodies”. So many of the items on their menu prove this point.

Must tries include their lemon cranberry biscuit, wild blueberry cream puff, cherry turnover, chocolate eclair, raspberry cream cheese brownie, cheese bread and sticky buns.
