7. Hike or bike the Victoria Rail Trail at Cameron Lake Resort

A great way to explore a new place is on foot or a bike. At Cameron Lake Resort in the Kawartha Lakes you have direct access to the Victoria Rail Trail. This 55-km scenic trail runs from Lindsay to Kinmount, following an old railway line. It’s perfect for a leisurely bike ride or a peaceful hike. Take in the views and keep your eyes peeled as some previous visitors have reported spotting wildlife along this trail.

8. Go underground at Warsaw Caves near Birch Bend Cottage Resort

For something truly different, Birch Bend Cottage Resort is located near Warsaw Caves Conservation Area. Here you can go underground and explore seven limestone caves that were formed thousands of years ago. One of them (Cave 4) stays 2 degree Celsius all year round!

For this adventure leave the flip flops or sandals back at the resort. You’ll need a good pair of running shoes or hiking boots to ensure you have good footing on the rock surface. Be sure to bring a headlamp or flashlight too for navigating the dark. You’ll find a great on-line guide for traversing through the caves on the Conservation Area’s website.

9. Float your cares away near Scotsman’s Point Cottage Resort

Lazy river tubing is the definition of relaxation, and if you stay at Scotsman’s Point Cottage Resort, you’re just minutes away from the perfect tubing spot on the Mississauga River. The slow-moving current makes this a gentle, stress-free activity for all ages.

Just grab a floatie, drop into the water, and let the river carry you along on this 1 km ride. When you reach the bend with the big boulder you’re at the end. Hop out, walk back up the trail, and do it all over again.

To get to the lazy river starting point, drive over to the Kawartha Highlands Signature Park. It’s located just a minute or two north of Buckhorn on County Road 36. If you need a tube or floatie they’re available at The Loft which is a store located next door to the Home Hardware in Buckhorn.
