Entry #1: What a slice
The scent wafted through the trees, a warm, savory aroma of dough and cheese, beckoning me from my usual grazing grounds. I’d often find myself wandering closer, guided by the tantalizing promise of something different, something beyond the simple leaves and berries that make up my diet.

One evening, as the sun dipped low and the sky turned a soft orange, I ventured from the forest close to where the pizza place stood. From my hidden spot behind a thicket, I watched. Inside, humans gathered there, laughing and sharing slices, their joy as palpable as the scent that drew me in.
I spotted something at the edge of the parking lot—a discarded, half-eaten slice. The allure of the pizza made me braver than my natural caution. I moved in and indulged in the abandoned slice.
The flavours exploded in my mouth.
It was a world away from the earthy taste of plants.
The saltiness of the cheese, the tang of tomato sauce—each bite was a revelation. For a moment, I felt connected to the humans and their world, united by the simple joy of good food.
Pizza Alloro in Buckhorn, Ontario wasn’t just a spot for humans to gather; it was a beacon for all creatures, a reminder of the shared pleasures that bridge the wild and the civilized. And as I retreated into the forest, the taste of pizza lingering on my tongue, I knew…I’d be back.
